United Liberation Movement for Democracy in Liberia (ULIMO).
There had also been write-ups in newspapers on this claim, and then
twice from two witnesses at the TRC public hearings that are ongoing

characterized the Liberian conflict,” the TRC report indicated,
“assumed a systemic pattern of abuse, wanton in their execution, and

A Need for a Mental Revolution for Corruption Control in the New
Liberia
Jan 4, 2009
Syrulwa Somah, Ph.D.
We, Liberians, must put to work the functionality of our education,
not the mere acquisition of same. By some estimate, there are
350,000 Liberians who hold degrees (AA to PhD) and the number is
climbing. They are all educated people and, in many cases, "highly"
educated Liberians earned their degrees in advanced nations,
including the US. It is commendable that some Liberians have
acquired western education, but difficult to understand that some
have used their learning to foster a criminal enclave once they have
ascended to power. Sadly, the work of many of these learned
Liberians echoes in chambers of destruction. Any leader who makes
foxes into judges – judges who close their eyes when they see the
truth, defy the law and turn blind eyes and deaf ears in upholding
their sacred oath and in administering the law of our nation fairly
and equitably – belongs in the pits of hooliganism along with
his/her appointees.

Sheik Kafumba Konneh’s Commitment to Peace is Unshakable
By Nvasekie Konneh
January 2, 2009
Before
he finally appeared before the TRC hearing to give his testimony
about the role he played in the Liberian civil war, the head of the
defunct INPFL, Prince Johnson accused the Chairman of TRC, Jerome
Verdier, of holding “a placard written on it monkey must come, that
is Doe, must come down. He was a student activist. If that is the
same man I know, then he is not qualified to sit on that TRC as a
chairman before whom I should appear.”

A New Year’s Day Message from Ambassador M. Nathaniel Barnes
January 1, 2009

My
fellow Liberians, while we gather with friends and loved ones to
celebrate this holiday season, I would like to take this
opportunity, on behalf of our President, Her Excellency Madam Ellen
Johnson Sirleaf; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Olubanke
King-Akerele; my wife Dawn; the staff at the Liberian Embassy and in
my own name; to wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
As we reflect on and give thanks for the past, let us focus, not
only on resolutions to improve our personal lives, but on our
beloved Liberia as well. Whatever adversity our nation has faced
over the years, as we continue to heal in unity, we must not forget
our compatriots both here in the United States and back home that
may be less fortunate than ourselves. Let us be grateful for a
peaceful Liberia, and mindful that we must never again allow our
country to be consumed with war, self hatred and deprivation.
