MONROVIA,
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, commenting on the
astronomical hike in the prices of goods and services
caused by the unprecedented rise of the US dollars
against the Liberian dollar, says Government will soon
decide whether it should use only the local currency or
the US dollar as its legal tender or maintain both
currencies.
A
local business organization has made a rallying call to
Liberians to support the initiative of a Liberian
businessman who has brought cement into the country.
I
applaud FELMAUSA with outmost enthusiasm for the
innovative and creative Mandingo audio news program
recently launched on its website. However, I do have my
own doubts. Notwithstanding, I consider FELMAUSA’s
effort a creative break through because of its potential
to promote our rich cultural heritage.
For
certain no one can quantify the level of challenges
confronting the incumbent leadership. Even more
formidable, perhaps are the challenges overlapping what
we may envisage. No doubt we can outline the myriad of
successful achievements made in the areas of
resuscitating the image, the rehabilitation and
construction of roads, development in the public and
private partnership, reviews
Few
years ago when the idea of a Mandingo organization in
the twin cities was conceived, most people were happy
because there was a need for such an organization.
During those early days, the Minnesota Mandingo
Association (MMA) truly delivered on its promises,
Mandingoes moving to Minnesota were usually welcomed
with gifts; some even got financial assistance to help
ease the transition but most importantly they all
received warm welcome from their brothers and sisters in
the twin cities.
MONROVIA,

Ethnicity
is a critical point of rally in political situations,
particularly in Africa where ethnic politics has
dominated at the expense of nationalism. Liberian
politics is a good tool for experimentation of the test
of ethnicity in African politics to be used in any
political laboratory. The first ethnic group to dominate
the politics and socio-economy of Liberia was the
minority group of settlers referred to as the Americo-Liberians.

national identified as Sekou Susuku with US$750,000
counterfeit.
MONROVIA,
A member of the House of Representatives has written a
letter of concern to plenary raising suspicion that a
US$9 million budgetary appropriation given for
procurement of equipment by the Ministry of Public Works
might have not been expended. Plenary has therefore
summoned former Public Works Minister, Lusine Donzo to
account for that money.
MONROVIA,
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in consultation
with the management of the Liberia Petroleum Refining
Company (LPRC), has announced some price changes for
petroleum products.
